Project: Website redesign; custom WordPress programming

SHARK REEF is an online literary magazine published by the Lopez Writers Guild. The site had initially been created as a static HTML site; consequently, it was very time-consuming to update. When Lorna Reese came to us about a site redesign, we suggested blogging software would be an appropriate platform and would provide an efficient use of volunteer time.

WordPress is a popular blogging platform. Written in open-source PHP, it has a vast user community from which to draw support and inspiration. We began with the new Mimbo WordPress theme recently developed by Darren Hoyt. Building off of Darren’s theme, we needed to create a new way to organize the magazine’s content—by issue, not by month or year. We were also able to provide readers more options for finding particular pieces, such as searching by author or genre.
