Ravens Rook Lodging

Project:Website redesign, WordPress custom theme

Ravens Rook is a guest cabin on Lopez Island owned and operated by Asha Lela. Asha contacted me about redesigning her site, and asked if I could do two things for her: one, create a design that reflected the ambiance of her hand-built island home; and two, set up her website so that she could update it herself.

Asha wanted the website to include two colors that are very special to her, and for the site to be warm and welcoming. From her guidelines I built the site using her two colors (deep red and gold) plus a calm medium green. Ravens Rook is adjacent to Shark Reef Sanctuary, a popular spot to view San Juan Channel and the Olympic Mountains. I designed the page background with a pattern of lines suggesting kelp waving in the channel.

I chose to build the Ravens Rook site using WordPress. WordPress is my first choice for a content management system, as it is powerful, versatile, yet reasonably easy to learn. I conducted a couple of hours one-on-one training with Asha, she is now able to keep her site updated with current rates and availability. I also incorporated her existing availability calendar and reservation system into the WordPress website.
